Cool as a Cucumber
SUMMER HOLIDAY READY
Summer is here. Are you ready to glide effortlessly through the hot days and nights?
Maybe you are planning on recycling last year’s summer clothes. Maybe you don’t have the time or energy to create a new summer wardrobe to replace existing tired and out of date items!
If you want to make an instant impression and ‘ooze confidence’ you simply can’t slob around in clothes that have seen better days.
Summer dressing is being cool, comfortable and stylish.
Invest in natural fabrics that breathe and you won’t want to take them off.
Natural fabrics require some care in washing, so follow the instructions. A lingerie-washing bag is essential for these and your delicates. I use several for most of my clothes, with the exception of jeans and shorts etc.
These are my tips to be HOLIDAY READY
GIRLS
Fluidity – Loosen up in elegant floaty dresses and pant suits in soft colours. Drift along in soft pleated skirts that swish around your legs.
Sheer – Be ultra feminine in sheer silk fabrics that are light and airy.
Bohemian – Embrace your inner goddess in nomad dresses to rock the seventies. Try new fabrics like crochet, broderie anglaise or paisley prints.
Head to Toe Whites – Always a winner as they are instantly uplifting, just add a neutral for contrast.
Nautical – This summer favourite never dates. Look for new ways to wear it with diagonal stripes (instantly slimming) or trims of white lace to add a modern twist.
Beyond the Pale – Embrace the new moody pastels that are soft rather than candy coloured. Nude, peach, caramel, lavender, blush and ivory help lower the temperature on a hot day.
GUYS
In the Blues – Head back to basics with cool chambray, navy, pale blue and aqua.
Subdued Tones – Chinos are the classic pants for the Aussie summer and abound in cotton twill in mint, salmon, khaki and cream. Wear them rolled ankle length. Crisp tailored linen shorts too are in soft hues to step out in style.
Nautical – Start with a classic stripe and build on with white and blue essentials.
Dress Sandals – This is the most difficult shoe for men to conquer. When the loafer or trainer doesn’t work the dress sandal fits the bill. Go for dark toned leather in a classic style with two strong leather straps. No socks and avoid rubber thongs.
Make a Splash
GIRLS
Every designer has stylish one piece swimsuits in beautiful prints and designs to flatter any shape. Those who are cancer survivors or pale skinned should go for the new fashion trend of a high neckline. Geometrics and florals abound, and divert attention away from figure faults.
GUYS
Smart well cut trunks are de rigeur for any male to look stylish. Not too tight (budgie smugglers) or too loose (flappy board shorts that hang off you). Muted colours look great and have a linen shirt or polo to throw on afterwards. Avoid gaudy prints.
