Luv the skin you’re in

A New Age Philosophy

For the modern woman the rules have changed. There are no rules to dressing for your age; it’s about dressing to your own beat.   With 40 the new 30, 50 the new 40, 60 the new 50 etc., it’s being truly fabulous at every age.

Fashions new laid back mood liberates us all to relax and revel in our style. Its not trussed-up or contrived dressing that looks staid, it’s dressing in a relaxed self-aware style.  It’s more a playful look.  I don’t know about you but I love to wear a dress or skirt and add my metallic sneakers to feel young at heart.

Just look at so many women in the public eye who look sensational no matter what their age, shape or size. Iris Apfel at 95 (featured above in collaboration with Swarovski), Michelle Obama, plus size model Robyn Lawley, Tilda Swinton, Julie Bishop, Helen Mirren, Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett, Deborah Knight, Anna Meares, Adele (below in Mexico) and Marta Dusseldorf to name a few.

You too can be sensational at any age if you live a healthy life, exercise and love the skin you’re in. Always wear colours that give you a healthy glow, and dress to highlight your assets.

If your legs aren’t your best feature wear a longer skirt, pants or experiment with Autumn’s new culottes. Finding your best shape, your best hem length (very dependent on your height) or the heel height you can manage is like finding a glove that fits you. It saves you angst, stress and no more changing outfits at the last moment because nothing looks quite right.

Whether you’re a writer, scientist, pilot, mother, chef or teacher you need to have a strong sense of what works for you. Know the difference between what is great for someone else and perfect for you.

Just because that gorgeous number looks divine on Cate Blanchett doesn’t mean its right for you. We don’t all have the same genes, access to luxury fashion items or bank accounts like Cate though we can access the know how to make it work for ourselves. And who wants to look like someone else anyway. As a Personal Stylist I always recommend you can replicate their personal style but do it your way.

Plus Size Australian Model Robyn Lawley (pictured above) is testament to feeling confident in her own skin.

Understand as you enter a new decade its less about following fashion and more about wearing what makes you look and feel sensational. Use fashion to say something about you, you don’t have to follow the crowd.

Today as a modern woman it is being true to yourself and allowing yourself to evolve. Honour who you are is paramount and adapting your style over time. Always back yourself, as you are the best judge of you.
