Riding High
"The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence." Blake Lively
Confidence comes from within and is a result of you feeling at one with yourself and the way you express yourself. When you make a Style Statement you are expressing your creativity in the way you dress.
For a celebrity it is easy to achieve an effortless style as they have access to the best fashion and stylists. Realistically not everyone has the time or budget like Blake so what can you do? And with Spring Racing season well upon us, who needs the extra stress on wondering what to wear?
My Style Strategy
No matter what the occasion, when purchasing a new garment I always choose an item I will wear time and time again. A race day dress should work well at summer parties, a wedding or a special event. And it should be a quality item I love that flatters my shape and height. Wearability is what you are looking for in a classic style that reflects your personality. Focus on what makes you unique, it could be your creativity, your strength, your femininity or your playfulness and showcase it in the way you dress. Read more on Style Strategy and Profile
Less Shopping, More Style
Style Icons Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama and Keira Knightly have adopted the art of securing separates that stand the test of time. They buy beloved staples they can rediscover year after year.
Spring Racing Trends
To look on trend wear a statement pant suit in classic navy or white or; a dress in an expressive print, a bold colour or go monochrome. Fluid shapes are easy to wear and feel comfortable all day. Decide if you want your dress or hat to make the statement.
Block heels are so now and won’t sink into the grass; they are easy to wear and prevent you tottering. Your shoes don’t have to match your bag, just compliment it; wear a coloured shoe with a neutral bag or visa versa. A navy shoe looks stunning with a pink bag or team tan shoes with an orange bag.
Guest Blogger Catherine Kelly from Embellish Atelier
I’m delighted to have Catherine’s update from Royal Ascot for the Spring Carnival. Catherine is highly regarded having worked with Opera Australia’s head of Millinery for the current production of ‘My Fair Lady’. Catherine helped recreate the hats from the original stage production under Costume Designer, John David Ridge.
Spring Racing 2016 with Catherine Kelly
“My recent trip to Royal Ascot confirmed the appeal of smart, sophisticated feminine dressing. There was a clear lean towards timeless soft pleating and ethereal lace in the season’s soft pinks and blues. Stylised versions of the straw boater with pretty veiling and lace were also a strong trend.
A standout was the classic 1950s swing frock with an asymmetric neckline teamed with a larger brimmed hat. As always, the shift frock remains a race wear staple combined with a modernised pillbox. A touch of metallic adds glamour and a modern twist.
MEN It’s not all about the ladies, show your sartorial style in a hat to complement your style. A classic felt fedora is sure to please.
Wear it again Sam
Embellish Atelier has a few select hats for hire and some pre loved pieces for sale. We also update our client’s headpieces for the next season to give them a fresh new look.
Recent Embellish Atelier designs, currently on display at the 21st Century Hat Exhibition in London demonstrate how a strong and graphic, contemporary headpiece makes a bold personal statement.
Heading into the Spring Racing season, look for a milliner who can work with you to create a headpiece that compliments your personality and individual style. Have fun!”
