In the Swim – Just Add Water

Buying a swimsuit is one of those experiences you do tend to put off.

Thank heavens designers are starting to cater for all needs including post surgery, large bust, full figure and maternity.

A girl’s best friend is the sculpting suit with clever panelling, hi-tech fabrics and on-trend cuts.  Check out Isola by Megan Gale which has great structuring including D and E cups.  Plus Size Model Robyn Lawley has designed a range with beautiful fabrics in larger sizes.

GUYS

  • Wear swim shorts in short to medium leg length in prints, stripes or block colour.  Add panama hat and sleek aviators.
  • Avoid budgie smugglers, these are only for competitive sports.
  • Avoid long board shorts if you are short, they will dwarf you.

PALE OR PASTY SKIN

  • Wear blue or green in your best shade to look healthier.
  • Avoid black or dull muted colours.

ROUND OR APPLE SHAPE

  • Do wear diagonal lines in ruching, pattern or stripes to divert the eye’s attention. Go for abstract patterns and a central panel.  Wear underwiring with defined cups to lift your bust and create waist definition.
  • Avoid single colour plain swimsuit with no detail.
  • GUYS avoid too tight or too short swim shorts.

LARGE BUST

  • Wear a V neckline with medium size straps and underwire to lift the bust.
  • Avoid plunging necklines and embellished frilled tops.

PEAR OR TRIANGLE

  • Emphasis the bust with volume like frills or padding.  Wear darker colours on the bottom.
  • Avoid boy shorts or too high cut legs.
