Tell me a Secret
Colour Mastery
Do you wonder why some people can wear a myriad of colours with such panache? Do you wish you could combine colours that are visually appealing instead of looking like you haven’t a clue?
Well let me introduce you to my secret. As a Women’s Stylist when getting dressed I always follow the three colour rule. The power of threes is well known as a number in design that is fool proof.
It’s simple to follow and works a treat. Whether you wear two neutrals and one colour or two colours and one neutral you will look balanced and like you know what you’re doing.
Some Rules
White isn’t included as a colour. If you are wearing a white shirt with blue jeans you can add an olive bomber jacket and a mustard scarf. If you wear a white tee under a red blazer you could team it with navy pants and add a pale blue scarf or a cobalt necklace. Only use colours that flatter your colouring.
The same works with prints and patterns, they count as one colour. If you wear a floral dress you can pick up the colours in your jacket and accessories. I have a floral orange, purple and aqua dress with white and black in the pattern. I can wear it with my orange trench and black boots or purple bag and aqua shoes. The key is to only work with colours in the print and keep everything else simple so you don’t overdo it.
Men too are included in this rule. If you have tan chinos and a navy sweater you can add another colour in a shirt or tee. The same with a charcoal suit, team it with a pink shirt and a tie with pink and purple.

It all depends on how far you want to go and what sort of impact you want to make. It also does depend on the occasion, is it appropriate and relevant for you at that time.
